INGREDIENTS
GLYCERIN or glycerine, is a basic ingredient in most soap. Glycerin is a humectant – it holds in moisture. In a soap, this is great, because it helps to hold moisture next to the skin, making the soap moisturizing. Glycerin allows the soap to be transparent and re-meltable.
PROPYLENE GLYCOL (PG) is a humectant, which means it is carrying water-based ingredients into the skin. PG allows the soap to be transparent and re-meltable.
SORBITOL is a sweetener. The humectant and stabilising properties of sorbitol are also very appreciated in soap base manufacturing.
SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES) is an anionic surfactant which is widely used in rinse off products as a primary surfactant. SLES is milder and less irritating than SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS).
SODIUM LAURATE is the sodium salt of Lauric Acid. Soap surfactant such as Sodium Laurate is less irritating than most sulfate surfactants.
SODIUM STEARATE is the sodium salt of Stearic Acid. Common sources of the starting material, stearic acid, are vegetable triglycerides obtained from coconut and palm oils and animal triglycerides from tallow.
SODIUM COCO SULFATE Made from the fatty acids of coconut oil, it is a good alternative to SLS or SLES.
COCO GLUCOSIDE is a cloudy yellow liquid derived from coconut. Coco Glucoside is an non-ionic surfactant that can be used as a foaming agent and emulsifier.
COCOAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE is a synthetic fatty acid made from coconuts. Creates rich, thick lather in foaming products.
ETIDRONIC ACID is listed as an ingredient of soap base where it is used as emulsion stabiliser and viscosity control.
TITANIUM DIOXIDE used to whiten and opacify melt & pour soap base. Suspends in water-based substances.
ORGANIC SHEA BUTTER gives melt and pour soap a creamy, smooth consistency.
ORGANIC VIRGIN OLIVE OIL gives melt and pour soap a creamy, smooth consistency.
GOAT’S MILK Reconstituted whole goat milk powder. Contains Vitamin A and is great for all skin types. Goat’s milk soap base is well known for its creamy lather and skin-loving properties.
ALOE VERA has antioxidant, antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
SUGAR syrup (SUCROSE) is transparency increasing ingredient. Adding sugar also helps make a light and bubbly lather. Helps increase the viscosity of soap base.
SODIUM THIOSULFATE: great vanilla stabilizer that helps minimize the browning caused by fragrances containing vanilla.
SILICA Increases the viscosity of soap base to allow for suspending particles in the finished product.
